This is awesome! Where most of the Croats from the 9th century converted into christianity or did they still retain their old beliefs?

awesome picture man! I love seeing pics of olden warriors - especially my ancestors! From what I understand we were a barbarian tribe that came from Northern Europe into what is now modern Croatia - hired by the Romans to fight the Avars.

Man, that's quite a long sword.. Was that usual for infantry?

...on that question answer: no...aherm only duxes (commes) and elders (iupannii) common infantry wear short iron sword called "Tesak" or more commonly an axe. very usual and beloved croatian weapon of that times.about one third of an infantry wear a composite bow. Very deadly! :)

Cool. Longsword is good for the cavalry, but demands quite a skill in a close combat. In Ukrainian and Russian 'tesak' also means short (for a sword, but pretty long for a knife) and broad blade. In Kiev Rus axe was common too.

Tesak was originaly from early Chehs (Bohemians) and it wasa woodcuters tool for cleaning forest bushs and branches. We also have thich oak forest on almost onethird of our teritory, specialy in Slavonia.
as I said: small world! :)
